My Sophomore Classes
World history

The first class of my day is World History. Unlike last year, my history class is not integrated with any other classes. In this class we have learned about events from around the world from the time of the Roman Empire to the Industrial Revolution. My favorite project (so far) was the Amazing Race project. In this project we learned about important events throughout the Western part of the world from 1300-1800 C.E. We had to pick 12 important events and make tasks for each at each destination showing the lessons learned from each event. I liked this project because I liked learning about the many accomplishments and events that happened and I liked creating game-show tasks for the events. You can look at the keynote here.
Biolit

Biolit is my second and third hour of the day. It is an integrated class of Biology and Literature. In biology I've learned a lot about cells and how they reproduce, and also genetic information and how it is transferred. In English I've read many books and stories that have to do with the things we learned in Biology, like Jurassic Park and some short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. My favorite project in this class was The Great Debate project. I liked this one because we got to debate an ethic topic with another group. My group was pro for genetically modified foods, and we won! Afterwards, we wrote a paper on whether or not we thought we should clone extinct species. To read my paper, you can click here.
FAATS

Instead of a New Tech math class, I have a class called FAATS. FAATS stands for Formally Advanced Algebra Trigonometry and Statistics. I was worried to do a Junior math class, but it's actually not that hard, and a few of the units I enjoy.
Latin

My fifth hour of the day is Latin. Since Pinckney does not have a Latin class, I have to take it online in a classroom with other students taking classes online. I decided to take Latin because I know that a lot of colleges require 2 years of a language to be taken in high school, and since I'm interested in the medical field I thought Latin would be a good thing to know. Now that I've taken it, I find it really interesting. It's not as hard as it seems, because a lot of English words (and other languages too!) derive from Latin. Not only do I learn Latin, but I also learn about the ancient Roman culture too. My favorite project I did in this class was when I had to write a story as if I was a time traveler going back to ancient Rome. To read my story, you can click here.
Orchestra

Just like last year, my last hour of the day is orchestra. This year I was both 2nd and 4th chair cellist. I enjoy being in orchestra because it's a break from school and it allows me to relax a bit.
